School Enrichment Programs
4-H and local schools, both public and private, team up to offer enrichment programs. Forsyth County 4-H offers a number of programs, for a variety of
age groups. Curriculum, training, and hands-on learning opportunities are provided for each of these experiences. In some cases, equipment is provided.
Teachers interested in this experience need to contact the Extension Office for information including dates or click on the link below for a list of School
Enrichment programs available in Forsyth County.
| Embryology |
EGG-SPLORE the science of embryology from egg to chicken. Designed for students in 2nd grade it correlates well with the curriculum objectives you teach.
The package includes student study sheets, websites, and a color poster.
If EGG-SPERIMENTATION and the scientific method are important in your teaching plan for 7th graders, then this curriculum is for you. The curriculum includes
student activity sheets, a color poster and an interactive website.

| Discover Agriculture |
| This program offers students the chance to experience many areas of agriculture all in one place. Programs are held in October and are directed toward the NC
Standard Course of Study for Science for fifth grade. The program is held at both the Children’s Home and again at the Arboretum at Tanglewood. Participants
will have an opportunity to learn about some of the following (classes vary depending on the location): Farm Animals, Growing Fall Vegetables, Identifying trees
native to Piedmont North Carolina, Water, Greenhouse Production, Building a Garden and Working with Soil & Water. |
| Down to Earth |
| Through this hands-on, minds-on program, 6th grade students get the basics of botany, the gist of gardening and the essentials of ecology. Students will use
gardening to stimulate their senses and cultivate science process skills and life-skills. By gathering data using the scientific method, students will grow a
sense of pride and responsibility. |
| Exploring Your Environment |
| 4th grade students will receive basic ecological concepts to help develop scientific thinking and processing skills. Concepts include the four elements of life,
connections among living things, and how all plants and animals are affected. |
| Heritage Days |
| In celebration of National Farm City Week, 4th graders attend the Heritage Days program held at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in September. Students tour stations
that are set-up in the Yesterday Village spending twenty minutes at each station. The goal of the program is to teach the youth about North Carolina’s Heritage
including quilting, agriculture/crops, music, herbs, goats or sheep, beef and dairy cattle, beekeeping, basket weaving/chair caning and water usage. The highlight
of the day is a covered wagon ride pulled by two mules. |
| School Days |
| During the Dixie Classic Fair, Extension Agents from the NC Cooperative Extension Center offer information, short tours and hands-on activities for school groups
ages preschool-5th Grade. This event is usually the first Monday of the fair during School Days. |
