Region I Aging Advisory Council was established by Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging as part of a federal mandate under the Older Americans Act of 1965. The purpose and mission of Region I Aging Advisory Council is to promote quality of life for all older adults (60+) who live in the service area which includes Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. Council members serve as advocates and spokespersons for older adults residing in their representative counties. Members must reside within Forsyth County and have no conflict of interest.
Four (4) representatives are appointed by County Commissioners for a three year term and can be reappointed for two additional three year terms. The composition of Region I Aging Advisory Council consists of persons age 60 and older, local elected officials, family caregivers, participants in the Home and Community Care Block Grant program, minority representatives, and the general public.
