Get Your Preschooler Reading Ready for Kindergarten

In the coming months the children's area at your local library may look different. Several branch libraries will have exciting new entryways in to the children's area, new books, new carpet and new furniture.

The Forsyth County Public Library's mission has always been Connecting our Community to Reading, Information and Lifelong Learning, and with recent grant funding from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust for our Youth Services Department, we will be able to offer exciting changes to our children's rooms, add more books, expand services and offer even more opportunities for preschool age children and their families.

The Library and the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, through their Great Expectations Initiative, wants every preschool child in Forsyth County to be Reading Ready for Kindergarten.

How? It's simple, easy and the best part is that it's free. We love to toot our horn and tell you that our programs are well planned by professional staff who understand the importance of children having a wonderful library experience every time they visit.

Library cards are available to any child four years old or older. Ask any staff person how you can get a library card for your child so they can check out books.

Starting this month every library location will offer monthly evening and weekend programs for preschool children. Branches will feature storytime sessions energizing music and movement, fun craft programs and other engaging programs all designed for preschool children, and it's all free. In January, sign your preschooler up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. Find out how you can help your preschooler be Reading Ready For kindergarten with booklists and other tips for their literacy development. Library staff can get you started.

Take advantage of the many benefits the Library and Great Expectations offers to help get your preschooler Reading Ready For Kindergarten and see why the Library is the very best place to start for early childhood literacy.
