Anna Seward: Portrait of a Poet, March 28 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Claudia Kairoff, Professor of English at Wake Forest University, will give a presentation on the 18th century romantic poet Anna Seward on March 28 at 3 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium. Dr. Kairoff's special area of interest is 18th century poetry and literature, and she has published a book on Anna Seward entitled "Anna Seward and the End of the Eighteenth Century." Dr. Kairoff will discuss Anna Seward's life and career.

Anna Seward was a prominent British poet during the period of King George III. She was encouraged to write poetry from an early age. After gaining renown following the publication in 1780 of "Elegy on Captain Cook," Anna Seward was dubbed the “Swan of Lichfield.”

The portrait of Anna Seward painted in 1788 by the British artist, George Romney, is part of the permanent art collection at the Central Library. It can be seen on the second floor of the library.

Please join us on March 28 at 3 p.m. in the Central Library Auditorium for "Anna Seward: Portrait of a Poet" with Dr. Claudia Kairoff.
