Travel with a Purpose: International Volunteering and Tourism

National park ranger Wesley Gant will present a talk on international volunteer travel on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. Attendees will learn about different volunteer travel opportunities and how international volunteering can provide a more rewarding, immersive and enjoyable experience than traditional tourist trips. Gant has visited Namibia, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Paraguay, and Morocco as a volunteer and will share his own experiences and offer advice to future volunteer travelers.

Gant has worked in 15 states for the Department of the Interior as a park ranger since 2007. He started traveling internationally in 2013 with a trip to Patagonia, but was concerned about the cost of future travel. His own experience as a volunteer and volunteer recruiter led him to examine international organizations that offered volunteer opportunities. He discovered groups looking for motivated travelers that share a passion for their cause. Volunteers can travel relatively inexpensively while contributing time to a cause important to them.

Free public event. No reservations required.
