This week in Summer Reading!

This year it’s all about exercising your body and mind at the Library with our Summer Reading 2016 Program themes - “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” for children, “Get in the Game” for teens, and “Exercise Your Mind” for adults. The program will kickoff on Friday June 17 at 6:30 pm in a new location this year - the ARTivity Park at 630 N. Liberty Street in downtown Winston-Salem. As a special treat we have Amanda Durnell from Down to Earth Aerials performing a Cirque-style aerial silks show that you won’t want to miss. Come out, enjoy the show and learn more about the Library’s Summer Reading program and all the fun things to do at your library branch this summer.

The first week of Summer Reading is chock full of fun programs at the Library. It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to the Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center for their Funtastic Carnival on Wednesday, June 22 at 10:00 am. Imagine all the fun you can have with a ringmaster, balloons, games, a clown, and so much more! Or you can race on over to the Clemmons Branch on Wednesday, June 22 at 2:00 pm or the Southside Branch Thursday, June 23 at 11:00 am for Wake Forest University’s Museum of Anthropology’s program “Monkey’s Favorite Game". Kids ages 6-12 will learn about the ancient game of badminton and create their own Chinese shuttlecock to take home. Registration is required for this program. On Friday, June 24 at 10:30 am get ready to rock your socks off with Big Bang Boom in concert at the Kernersville Branch Library.

We have fun programs for teens and adults this summer too. Rural Hall Branch Library makes “small” a big deal on Thursday, June 23 at 3:00 pm with Polymer Clay Charms, where teens create their own small charms to take home. Adults can also learn and create at the Walkertown Branch Library’s Fun with Acrylics: Free Art Class, Tuesday, June 21 at 10:00 am. Have fun with bright summer colors and learn basics of acrylic painting from instructor Tatyana Seamon. Supplies are provided, but you can bring your favorite brush if you like. Registration is required.

Check out our Summer Reading Program website to keep track of your summer reading for a chance to win great prizes and learn about our great programs and many more fun things to do at the Library this summer.
