Copies may be requested by in person, by mail or online. If it's convenient, come to our office in the Forsyth County Government Center. 201 N Chestnut Street, Winston Salem. Walk-in customers must present valid identification for certified copies. North Carolina law stipulates that only direct relatives may receive certified copies. This includes a spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, sibling, grandparent and grandchild.
Mail requests for certified copies must be notarized. Uncertified copies do not require notarization.

A marriage license may be obtained from the Register of Deeds office in any county in North Carolina. The license is good for 60 days from the date of issue and a ceremony can be held in any location within North Carolina.
