2009 Municipal Election Candidate Filing

The filing period for Non-Partisan municipal elections in the towns of Bethania, Clemmons, Kernersville, Lewisville, Rural Hall, Tobaccoville and Walkertown, as well as the Partisan municipal election in Winston-Salem will open at 8:00 AM on July 6, 2009 and will close at noon on July 17, 2009. Details may be found in the 2009 Election Schedule and the 2009 Candidate Filing Information.

All candidates are required to live in the municipality in which he files, must be registered to vote, and must be at least twenty-one years of age. Candidates filing for races in Winston-Salem must have been registered in their political party for ninety days prior to filing. Candidates filing for Council Member in Winston-Salem must also reside in the ward in which they file.

Candidates must file their Notice of Candidacy during the filing period at the Forsyth County Board of Elections office or the Town Halls of Clemmons, Kernersville and Rural Hall.

The Rural Hall Town Hall will close daily at 4:30 PM. All Town Halls will stop filing candidates at the close of their business day on Thursday, July 16th. Candidates that file for office on July 17th will be required to file at the Board of Elections office, 201 North Chestnut Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
