Growing Communities Workshop

In the past several years, there has been a tremendous growth of community gardening, but often the focus is only on building the physical infrastructure of the gardens - raised beds, water systems, fencing. However, attention to developing the human infrastructure - the COMMUNITY - of the garden is essential for sustainable outcomes. Community gardening is most successful and long lasting when the people affected by the garden have a role in leading the development of the garden.

Growing Communities is an in-depth, 2-day hands-on workshop based on the American Community Garden Association's curriculum for community development. As a "train the trainers" session, attendees learn the principles and practices of community building, and how to pass these techniques on to others in their community by conducting their own workshop.

Lucy Bradley of NCSU and Don Boekelheide of CPCC will facilitate the two day workshop to be held at Tanglewood Park on Thursday October 25th & 26th. The fee for the workshop is $75.00, with early bird registration before Sept. 1st $50.00. To register for the workshop, visit www.communitygardening.org.
