A History of Walkertown from the Art of Robert Klar on Tuesday, May 21

Listen to a special presentation and learn about the history of Walkertown from the art of Robert Klar at this free public lecture sponsored by the Walkertown Area Historical Society. Klar will show and discuss several of his drawings of Walkertown properties and talk about the history from his perspective. Local historians will also be on hand to add in the historical detail and to assist with any questions about the history of Walkertown.

Robin Klar grew up in Falls Creek, a very small central Pennsylvania town that he will always call “home”. Why? Because it is much like Walkertown once was. However, Robin has now lived in Walkertown since 1987.

As an artist, he can’t remember a time when art did not play a part in his life. He has enjoyed working in various media, but pen and ink has always fascinated him. With no serious training, Robin has learned mostly by doing. He has taken part in numerous shows, has received a number of awards, and has had his work used in various publications. The action portraits of Pennsylvania amateur wrestlers got Klar started. Studying physical education provided him with an understand of anatomy and his own experience helped him capture the action of the sport on paper. When he moved, he had to start drawing other things, as wrestling is not nearly as popular here. Thus, he has found great pleasure in drawing and painting birds, flowers and buildings. Robin was a teacher and is currently involved in fitness; however, art has always been a constant. It has been both therapeutic and rewarding. As a husband and father, his family has always been his best cheerleaders and toughest critics. But, it is most satisfying when his drawing brightens the life of another. He knows his parents passed on the talent to him, but has always considered it a gift from his creator.

Robin has spent countless hours improving his skills and it is to the glory of God, he states, that he continues to create art inspired by the love of the place where he lives - Walkertown. The drawing "Aspiring to Glory" was donated by the artist to the Walkertown Branch library. It features most of the church steeples within five miles of Robin's house and is on display in the Inspiration section of the library.
