Community Garden Directory Update! Garden leaders, please submit updates by July 1, 2019!

Forsyth Community Gardening is updating our Map & Directory, and we need your help! We ask that ALL community gardens please take a few minutes to submit an updated Directory entry online between June 15, 2019 – July 1, 2019. The form is available at: https://tinyurl.com/FCGGardenUpdate. There will also be walk-in help sessions at Cooperative Extension for groups that need assistance filling out the form.

This will help us provide accurate information to potential garden members and volunteers about opportunities to get involved! Submitting or updating your Directory entry is also required to access Forsyth Community’s Gardening’s Seed Bank, Tool Lending, supply giveaways, and certain workshop series.

Here’s how to submit your update:

  • 1) Communicate with your garden group to submit ONE update. Please select one person, who responds to email regularly, to be the contact for the Directory.
  • 2) Check the current Directory to see if your garden is listed. If it is, please use the same name in your update.
  • 3) Fill out the Garden Directory Update Form online. If you have an entry in the Directory, you may copy current information from your page, but do submit an update to confirm that the information is still good
  • 4) If you wish to submit photos for your Directory page, please follow the instructions at the end of the Update Form. This is encouraged, but not required.

*** If you need assistance filling out the form, we will have walk-in help sessions on Wednesday, June 26 from 1:00-2:30 pm and 5:30-7:00 pm at Cooperative Extension (1450 Fairchild Rd., Winston-Salem NC 27105). You may come any time during these sessions; your update should take only about 10 minutes. Please bring the name and email of someone willing to serve as the contact person. If you would like to submit photos, you may bring these on a flash drive.

If your garden has closed, please contact Megan Gregory so we can take it off the website.

Why is this important?: Our online Map & Directory are essential tools for the community gardening movement in Forsyth County. We use them to:

  • Connect potential members and volunteers with active community gardens,
  • Determine eligibility for programs available to community gardens, including the Seed Bank, Tool Lending, supply giveaways, and certain workshop series.
  • Demonstrate the extent of public interest in community gardens, and the need for resources to support them.

Unfortunately, much of our information is out-of-date, and we need additional information to make the Map and Directory more useful to potential gardeners and volunteers. Using the garden updates, we will also create tools that allow people to search for a specific type of garden – for example, an allotment garden for someone who wants space to grow their own food, or a school garden for someone who wants to volunteer to work with children.

Please note that once the new Map and Directory are created in late summer 2019, you will be able to submit updates at any time by visiting the Gardens page on the Forsyth Community Gardening website and clicking on “Garden Directory Update Form.”

Thank you for your collaboration!
