The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection provides public notice before issuing certain air quality permits such as Significant Title V Modifications. These notices are also mailed to persons on the Department’s mailing list. Contact Peter Lloyd to sign up for this list. The public notices allow at least 30 days for public comment on the draft permits. If significant comments are received or the Director determines that the public interest will be served, a public hearing will be held on the draft permit.

Other public notices, such as Board Meetings and code modifications, not directly related to particular permit issuances, are also posted on this website during the comment period associated with the notices.

9/16/2015 The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is providing public notice of an opportunity for the public review and comment on a draft Title V air quality permit for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company - Whitaker Park Facilities, Winston-Salem, NC. This facility has applied for a significant modification of its Title Air Quality operation permit to allow the use of ethanol in its R&D facilities. This modification will not cause a significant increase of regulated air pollutant emissions. The draft permit meets the Title V requirements as specified in Forsyth County Air Quality Control Ordinance and Technical Code 3Q .0500.
7/29/2015 The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is providing public notice of an opportunity for the public review and comment on a draft air quality permit for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for approval to construct and operate tobacco manufacturing equipment at its Tobacoville Facility in Tobaccoville, North Carolina. The application was submitted pursuant to Sec. 3D-0530 of the Forsyth County Air Quality Technical Code entitled Prevention of Significant Deterioration. Comments must be received by August 28, 2015.
7/21/2015 The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:00 am at the County Government Center, first floor boardroom, 201 N. Chestnut St., Winston-Salem, NC. The hearing will include the following proposed modifications, to Chapter 3 of the Forsyth County Air Quality Control Code and Air Quality Ordinance and Technical Code.
5/26/2015 The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is providing public notice of an opportunity for the public review and comment on a draft Title V air quality permit for Oracle Flexible Packaging, Inc. - Liberty Complex, 220 East Polo Road, Winston-Salem, NC. This facility has applied for a significant modification of its Title Air Quality operation permit with the addition of the Extruder Coating Machine (EX-5). This modification will not cause a significant increase of regulated air pollutant emissions. The draft permit meets the Title V requirements as specified in Forsyth County Air Quality Control Ordinance and Technical Code 3Q .0500.
5/21/2015 The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is pleased to present its Five Year Air Quality Monitoring Assessment for review and comment. The U.S. EPA requires accredited State and Local monitoring agencies to conduct an assessment of their air quality monitoring network every five years. This assessment reviews changes in Forsyth County (population, demographics, traffic, meteorology, etc.) and the adequacy of the County's monitoring network for establishing the area's compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). In addition, the monitoring network is established to assure timely air quality information that may impact Forsyth County residents.
