Southside Branch Thanks Businesses and Community

For support and donations during 2017, the Southside Branch gratefully acknowledges several local businesses and wishes also to thank its Friends of the Southside Branch Library nonprofit group.

The library thanks Food Lion (Peters Creek), Lowes Foods (Oliver's Crossing), Pepsi Bottling Ventures, and the Winston-Salem Dash BB&T Ballpark for seasonal gifts of food donations. Donated food and beverages are enjoyed by all ages at free library events such as movie programs, a Summer Ice Cream Social, a Halloween Party, and a Santa-&-Mrs.Claus Holiday Party. Refreshment donations allow The Friends of Southside Branch Library group, which helps sponsor programs and parties, to use more of its budget for gift books when less is needed to cover event expenses.

Children received Chic-Fil-A coupons in Halloween treat bags (Sides Branch Road off Peters Creek Parkway). Also in October, Kaplan Early Learning Company donated autumn-themed tote bags, party decor, and craft supplies, along with felt board stories for use all year long.

A teen volunteer at the Halloween Party received a free tee-shirt from Monstercade (Acadia Avenue), and Dairi-O meal coupons were awarded to two other especially helpful teen volunteers (Dairi-O at West Clemmonsville Road).

Among 2017's gift books funded by The Friends of Southside Branch Library were eleven beginner readers including those pictured here. These books are special gifts in memory of Frank Adler, who passed away July 19th. He was a longtime supporter of Southside Library, beloved by many for volunteering also with Boy Scouts, Crisis Control, and Sunnyside Ministries.

With the help of local businesses and groups such as Friends of the Southside Branch Library, your library can better fulfill its mission of connecting our community to reading, information, and lifelong learning.
