Walkertown Afterthoughts Book Club Reads "Gilead" in November
The Walkertown Branch Library Afterthoughts Book Club will meet in November to discuss Marilynne Robinson’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize winning novel “Gilead.” Although only Robinson’s second novel, “Gilead” was met with overwhelming critical praise for her sparse and beautiful prose. We'll meet on Thursday, November 8, at 11 am.
In a small Iowa town in 1956, Reverend John Ames is faced with his own mortality. He knows he will not live to see his young son reach adulthood. In response, he decides to write an account of his life and family history to be read by his son later in life. Robinson’s exploration of religion, God, family, and mortality through Reverend Ames won her both the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award. “Gilead” was also selected by the National Endowment for the Arts as an NEA Big Read selection.
For more information on “Gilead” that includes a reading by the author, please visit the National Endowment for the Arts website: https://www.arts.gov/national-initiatives/nea-big-read/gilead.
The Afterthoughts Book Club meets in the Walkertown Branch Library Conference Room. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to join us for a friendly and interesting discussion!
