Trees planted by the library

Two dedicatory maple saplings have been planted at Walkertown Branch Library. Each has an inscribed plaque.

One tree was planted in honor of long-time library supporter and local artist Dot Duggins. Over the years, Duggins has generously donated her time by teaching art classes at the library for both children and adults. Her paintings have also been exhibited at the library. In 2013, she donated the two beautiful oil paintings that hang in the children’s area in honor of Walkertown Branch Library’s 20th Anniversary. Duggins’ dedication plaque is inscribed with “Reading leads to more knowledge.”

The other maple is in honor of Gardenia Henley, a retired diplomat, United States Air Force veteran, and Friends of the Walkertown Library board member. Henley also teaches a conversational French class at the library. While working as a United States Inspector General Officer, she lived in numerous French-speaking countries. The plaque on Henley’s tree is inscribed with a dedication to “Women in the U.S. Air Force.”
