This week in Summer Reading!

Summer Reading is really warming up as we head into the second week! The program bench is deep for the week of June 27 - July 2 with about 20 special programs beyond our regular storytimes and book clubs! Here is this week’s highlight reel: Ozobots meets on Monday, June 27 @ 2:00 pm for the first of three sessions at Carver School Road Branch Library. Children ages 8 and up will learn hands-on about robotics, math, and programming, all while having fun using mini-robots. If they attend one Ozobot session and complete a Summer Reading log they will be entered into a drawing to win an Ozobot! Also this week there will be two Yoga programs for children-great for keeping young bodies and minds flexible! On Monday, June 27 @ 2:00 pm at Walkertown there is Yoga for Children and on Wednesday June 29 @ 10:30 am there is Yoga Family Storytime at Lewisville. Yoga instructor Lisa Kushner will lead these programs for children and their caregivers. You do not need to bring anything, but may bring your yoga mats if you want to. Registration and participation waivers are required for these programs. On Wednesday, June 29 both the Clemmons (10:30 am) and Rural Hall (2:00 pm) Branches will present Bricks 4 Kids. Bricks 4 Kidz is a special program for school aged kids who will engage with a book, build with LEGOs, and learn so much more! We will be reading the book, “On the Ball” by Brian Pinkney. This program is for ages 6-12. Please call to register as seating is limited.

For teens, the Wake Forest University Museum of Anthropology presents “Symbols of Strength” at 2:00 pm on both Monday, June 27 at Clemmons, and on Wednesday, June 29 at Walkertown. By using cloth and other objects from MOA’s collections, teens will get to look at and study West African Adinkra Symbols, which are used for strength, protection, and well being. Teens will then create and decorate tiles using Adinkra symbols. This program is for rising 6th-12th graders. Registration is required, as space is limited. Symbols of Strength will also be at Reynolda and South Side later this summer. This week’s Teen Interactive Movie will be Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone (rated PG) at the Kernersville Branch Library on Tuesday, June 28 @ 2:00 pm. You won’t just be sitting around watching a movie--there will be plenty of activities throughout the film, so keep your eye on the screen! This program for youth in grades 6-12. Registration is recommended to get the full interactive experience, although all teens are welcome. Don’t hang back, Get In the Game!

For adults at the library, we have two great film series that help you to Exercise Your Mind! On Mondays @ 6:00 pm Clemmons Branch presents Sports Movie Mondays! Snacks and beverages will be provided and any children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 336-703-2920 to get a list of the movies we’ll be screening that feature your favorite sports. Reynolda Manor Branch will wrap up its Get in the Game Film Series on Tuesday, June 28 @ 6:15 pm with a baseball film that is based on a true story. For more information call 336-703-3024.
