Forsyth County breaks ground for new Clemmons Branch Library

The new $6 million Clemmons Branch Library will be a community gathering space that enriches life for people of all ages, said Donna Staley, chairwoman of the Forsyth County Library's board of trustees.

The new 20,000 square foot branch will feature easier access and more parking from its location off Stadium Drive, and is expected to open by September 2020. There will be a makerspace, expanded areas for adults and children, a teen space and meeting rooms.

The new branch will replace the 8,900 square foot branch at 3554 Clemmons Rd. The current branch will remain open during construction. Forsyth County has been providing library services to Clemmons since 1964.

The county prides itself on its cultural offerings and special festivals for drama, books and film, said Donald Martin, vice chairman of the Forsyth County Commissioners, but libraries provide film, live entertainment and literary works all year round at no cost.

The Clemmons Branch Library is the final phase in the $40 million bond for library construction that was approved by voters in 2010. The Central Library was completed in late summer 2017 and the Paddison Memorial Branch in Kernersville opened in December 2018.
