16 Monarch Waystations - Learn the basics in how to create a Monarch Waystation for your lawn, garden, or deck to help support the annual migration of these beautiful butterflies. Ally McCauley of SciWorks will discuss how individuals can adopt and release their own Monarch through participation in local tagging programs! (additional fees apply) Children can make butterfly crafts.
23 Oh Deer – Tammera Donovan, NC Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator and the author of The Doe Family Finds a Deer will sign books and give an informative description of what deer rehabbers do. Participants will also learn what makes Tanglewood Park an ideal habitat for deer. Children will make an ‘endeering’craft using their own foot/handprints.
30 Who Lives Here? – Join the Tanglewood Nature Education Staff in fun activities to discover some of the wild animals that live at Tanglewood Park. Make a true-to-life plaster cast animal track and enjoy other fun animal-themed games and craft activities. Cornelius the Friendly Corn Snake will be on hand for a meet and greet and photo ops!

7 Piedmont American Indians – Learn about the Native Americans that inhabited Piedmont NC for thousands of years prior to European settlement. Examine artifact replicas and find out how these advanced cultures enjoyed a life of abundance from our surrounding resources. Children can make their own native game pieces using natural materials.
14 No Program – Check the park calendar to learn about other outdoor events for children and adults during this week.
21 Critter Carnival – Don’t miss out on the fun at the Critter Carnival! Local Naturalist Extraordinaire Beth Beeler will lead the group in animal crafts, games with prizes, and hands-on activities that teach how animals survive in the world around them.
28 A Day at the Beach - Enhance your end-of-the summer beach trip, or learn about the amazing creatures you may have already encountered as we go on a treasure hunt to learn about seashells, birds, sea turtles and other ocean animals. Play beach games and make crafts. Bring your swim suit and follow up the program with a visit to the Tanglewood Aquatic Center! (Aquatic Center admission fees apply)

4 Tree Art - Trees provide a variety of shapes, sizes and textures. Local tree experts will be joined by Lea Lackey-Zachmann, Art Instructor at High Point University as we explore a variety of printmaking techniques using leaves and other tree parts that we find along the trail. Paper and art supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own water-based art supplies as well. Bring a cover up or old clothes that can tolerate a few paint splatters.
All programs start at 10:00 am at Shelter 2 and last approximately one hour. Admission is free to registered RV campers and annual pass holders. All others pay gate fee of $2.00 per car/$8.00 per bus.
Participants should bring their own sunscreen, insect repellent, and water bottle, and wear comfortable outdoor clothes/shoes. Programs are designed for all ages, but children 16 and under must be accompanied by parent/responsible adult(s). Space may be limited for organized groups.
