Bike to Work Month is May 3 - 21st!

Bike to Work Month (May 3-21)

May 3 - Traffic Skills 101 Course at Washington Park, 9 AM - 3 PM

A League Certified Instructor will take participants through a course that teaches basic bike maintenance, traffic skills, and defensive maneuvers. Registration deadline is April 28th. The course is free. To register, contact Andrew Edmonds at thomase@cityofws.org or 336-747-7052.

May 12 - Cycling Social at Krankies Coffee, 5 - 7 PM

A chance to meet other cyclists from the community in a casual atmosphere and learn more about upcoming bike events.

May 13 - Bike Movie Night at a/perture, 6-7:30 PM

A screening of the film Pedal-Driven, a documentary focusing on the conflict of non-sanctioned mountain bike trails built on protected forest land and the park rangers who are charged with the duty of protecting the land. The movie examines the shared philosophies of stewardship and sustainability from both sides and, ultimately, offers examples of the ways in which opposing factions can find common ground.

May 15 - Bike for Fitness Day at YWCA of Winston-Salem, 7-10 AM

Information and advice on bicycling for transportation and health.

May 16 - Bike to Downtown Day at Fourth Street and Trade Street Intersection, 7-9 AM

Sponsored by the Forsyth County Department of Public Health - Refreshments, maps, and information will be available for cyclists. Group rides from various locations around town will allow cyclists to join other cyclists from a set location to downtown. Locations of the group rides will be posted to www.BIKE.cityofws.org

May 21 - Ride of Silence at Mock Orange Bikes, 7 PM

As part of the National Ride of Silence, Zach Lail of Mock Orange Bikes will lead a seven-mile Ride of Silence to honor cyclists who were injured or killed while riding their bikes. The ride will leave promptly at 7:00 PM, so please arrive by 6:45. For more information about the Ride of Silence, visit www.rideofsilence.org
