During the early morning hours on September 22, 2019, Deputy C. Owen was conducting security checks at businesses in a shopping center when a vehicle displaying a handicap placard pulled up to him. The female driver asked Deputy Owen if he could pump her gas. Deputy Owen agreed to provide assistance and followed her to a gas station located in the same shopping center. The driver provided Deputy Owen with cash to pay for her gas. While Deputy Owen was walking inside to pay, he realized she may need more gas to get home than what she had cash to pay for. Deputy Owen returned to the gas pump and used his personal credit card to fill up her tank. This act of kindness demonstrated by Deputy Owen shows this job is not just about carrying a gun and badge – it’s about serving others. For this reason, we are proud to select Deputy Owen as the Sworn Staff Member of the Month for September.
