Appraisers Are in the Field

Posted on 10/24/2011 by Tax Administration Staff

Appraisers Are in the Field

Forsyth County Appraisers are in the field and reviewing property for the 2013 Revaluation. They will be reviewing every real estate parcel in the county.

In each revaluation, Forsyth County Appraisers visit homes and businesses throughout the county. The process starts with the appraiser carefully reviewing every sale in an area. The appraisers verify the quality, the condition and the accuracy of tax data for each property and determine how each characteristic affects value. Once this step is complete, they turn their attention to the non-sale properties.

The appraisers check each non-sale property for things like: additions, renovations, demolition of outbuildings, property damage, the general condition of the property and other items that might affect the property value. Then the information learned from reviewing the sales is applied to the non-sale properties. This is a time consuming process, but it is one of the best methods for making sure that assessments are accurate and fair.

If you would like to verify that the person in your neighborhood is a Forsyth County Appraiser, his or her car will have a County seal on the door. Also, the appraiser will have a County Id and a business card with their contact information.
