Foreclosures / Sales
Each year approximately 96% of the taxes levied on real estate in Forsyth County will be paid by the past due date.
This high degree of compliance by our taxpayers is appreciated and is actually helpful in holding our tax rates at
a reasonable level. By the close of the fiscal year, the Tax Collector's Office will collect approximately 99%
of the taxes levied on real estate.
Foreclosure is considered to be a last resort collection remedy when all other avenues of collection have been exhausted or deemed
unsuitable for the parcel under consideration. Despite the initiation of foreclosure
proceedings, the property owner will be given every opportunity to pay the taxes,
fees and interest to avoid the loss of ownership.
There are three stages to the process of foreclosure and county ownership:
- The first phase is the initial foreclosure sale.
View properties that are scheduled to be sold due to delinquent tax liens.
- The second phase is the County auction of parcels. If a foreclosure auction is held and no bid is offered, then the County becomes the owner. These properties will be
offered to the public at a second auction.

- If a property is not sold at the initial foreclosure phase, or in the County auction phase, it is considered surplus property and
can be purchased directly from the County by submitting a bid, subject to the approval of the County Commissioners.
