Youth Services

The mission of the Forsyth County Youth Center is to provide secure short-term care to juveniles who are accused of committing a criminal offense, or adjudicated pending court action, or who are awaiting transfer to another facility.

The Youth Center . . .

  • is a juvenile detention facility built in 1962.
  • provides for the juveniles’ basic needs, such as shelter, food, clothing and medical care.
  • houses juveniles in a safe, humane environment, maintaining the level of security necessary to prevent escape and assure that juveniles live free of fear, assault and intimidation.
  • provides for the physical, emotional, religious and educational needs of juveniles during detainment
  • provides individual and group counseling, substance abuse assessment and evaluation, substance abuse education, psychological testing, health screening and health education.
  • is co-educational with a 16-bed capacity.
  • operates under local mandate and meets all legal standards for operation required by the North Carolina Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
  • houses youth ranging in age from 11-15 years old. The most common age group served is 14-15 years of age.
  • detains approximately 250 youth per year. 80% of the population are male and 84% of the population have been accused of committing delinquent offenses (crimes against persons or property).
