Visit Walkertown Branch Library

The Walkertown Branch Library serves the town of Walkertown, NC, and the surrounding communities of Kernersville, King, Walnut Cove, Belews Creek, and Germanton. This dynamic community with strong family and church ties is experiencing rapid growth, and the library staff strives to keep up with the needs of this expanding, diverse population.

Since its opening in 1992, the Walkertown Library has received strong community support. The Walkertown Branch Library will celebrate its 30th Anniversary in May 2022.

The library facility is 10,800 square feet in size and had more than 105,000 visits by local patrons within the last year. It was originally funded by both a state grant from the legislature and a 1987 bond referendum. The facility itself was designed by architect Stuart McCormick of the architectural firm Calloway, Johnson and Moore, who received an award for design excellence for the project from the North Carolina Institute of Architects.

Some of the prominent features that the Walkertown library offers include a VFW memorial, a Walkertown historic wall with photographs depicting events in local history, a conference room and an auditorium with a piano for public concerts, and a community display case.

One of the most impressive distinguishing characteristics of this library is its community garden. Twelve raised garden beds were installed in 2012 and are being maintained by local families. This is a wonderful, visible way for the community to come together at the library and contribute to the greater good of the local people and the local atmosphere.

The Walkertown library offers many valuable resources and services to its patrons. Some of the primary services offered include:

· A video relay service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing

· An Early Literacy workstation with two computers offering games for children ages 1-8

· A digitization workstation that allows users to digitize analog formats such as VHS, cassettes, slides, photos, and documents

· A large-print book collection sponsored by the Walkertown Lions Club

· A large Inspirational/Christian Fiction collection

· Artspace for exhibits of local artists and craftsmen

· Exam proctoring

· Year-round programming for all ages

· Grand 5'10 Piano available for concerts and recitals

· Community Garden

Other resources that this library is proud to provide, and are available at all of the Forsyth County Public Library branches, are reference librarians who lend their expertise; a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books which can be returned at any FCPL library; featured bestsellers; Inter-library loan from many other libraries; a substantial collection of magazines and newspapers; DVDs, audiobooks and music CDs; public computer stations and a copier.

The Walkertown public library serves its community at large and all of its members equally. It is open and welcomes anyone who would like to use the tremendous array of services that it offers.
