May Sworn Staff Member of the Month

On May 1st , 2011, Deputy Bethea responded to assist the WSPD concerning a female subject who was suicidal and hanging off the Arnold Road bridge over US Highway 52.

Deputy Bethea climbed an embankment and fence to reach the female subject, all the while conversing with her. He was able to establish rapport and approach the subject close enough to hold her hand. Deputy Bethea began encouraging her, at which time she began to cry and leaned on Deputy Bethea's shoulder. He was able to hug her, and with assistance of WSPD officers, pull her to safety.

Deputy Bethea is commended for his valor, by placing himself in a dangerous position, in order to save the life of another.
