On Thursday evening March 17, 2011, Pfc. Wilson was assigned to 4C dormitory. He was alerted to a cell where he found an Inmate that was gasping for air. Pfc. Wilson opened the cell door and noticed that the Inmate was trying to speak and had his right hand on the center of his chest. Pfc. Wilson turned the Inmate to face the wall and placed his left hand on the upper spinal area between his shoulder blades and from the right side used his right hand to push up on the upper abdomen.

Recognizing that the Inmate was elderly and frail, this was the best method/position to use. The Inmate regurgitated what he had swallowed and began breathing in a less tense manner. The charge nurse was called to check on the inmate and he was deemed okay. Pfc. Wilson should be commended for his quick actions that potentially saved the life of the inmate involved. Congratulations Pfc. Wilson!
