Old Time Music and Stories from Appalachia tonight!

Riley Baugus represents the best of old time American banjo and song. His powerful singing voice and his expert musicianship place him squarely in the current generation of the quality American roots tradition. Over the years, working as a weldor, blacksmith, and banjo craftsman, Riley played with many old time string bands. Longtime friend Dirk Powell, involved in the music direction for the film "Cold Mountain", convinced the producers that they needed banjos made in the Carolina hills, specifically Riley’s handmade banjos. They also needed an authentic acapella ballad singer for the voice of Pangle, played by Ethan Suplee. Riley put the hammer down on the anvil and didn’t look back.

“Come out and hear some old time tunes, songs and stories I have learned over the past forty years. There may be some nostalgic reminiscing about growing up in Walkertown and being from a Blue Ridge mountain family, like many other Walkertown residents and I’ll relate stories about the music and many of the folks I've had the opportunity to play with and learn from over the years.”

The event is sponsored by the - Walkertown Area Historical Society.
