Synopsis and Discussion

A dry air mass remains in place over the Triad today, with partly cloudy skies limiting solar radiation just enough to keep air quality levels in the upper Code GREEN range. Particle pollution also remains well within the Code GREEN range, but will likely see an uptick in pollution particles tomorrow as a frontal boundary south of the Triad begins to lift northward as a warm front, trapping particulate matter concentrations underneath the cloud deck. Ozone production should also be fairly limited with the increased cloud cover, resulting in Code GREEN AQI for both pollutants. Rain chances increase Tuesday evening as an upper level disturbance moves in from the west, bringing periodic showers into the Triad through Wednesday morning. Skies should gradually become mostly sunny by the afternoon as the disturbance moves to the east, allowing ozone levels to rise into the upper Code GREEN range. An upper level low begins to strengthen north of the Triad on Thursday and will likely persist into the weekend, with below normal temperatures expected through the period. With that said, air quality levels will likely remain in the Code GREEN range the rest of the week and into the weekend. (Payne)
