Air quality levels currently reside in the lower Code YELLOW range this afternoon as the Triad remains under an unseasonably cold weather pattern that is expected to persist through the end of the week. Remnant sleet/ice continues to remain a sizable hazard for the region today, as maximum temperatures are expected to barely exceed freezing this afternoon. Other than roads that have been cleared and areas where solar radiation has induced melt, most outdoor surfaces with continue to remain icy and any melt will refreeze overnight. Colder than usual outdoor surfaces will also aid in strengthening the nocturnal temperature inversion, trapping particle pollution closer to the surface and maintain Code YELLOW AQI. This pattern of minimal melt during the day and refreeze overnight will persist through Friday, leading to air quality levels remaining Code YELLOW each day. (Payne)
