The Afterthoughts Book Club at Walkertown Branch Library will be discussing Helen Simonson's debut novel, "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand". Written with sparkling wit and comedy, the novel was beloved by critics when it was released in 2010. A comforting cup of tea leads to a blossoming romance between Major Ernest Pettigrew and Mrs. Jasmina Ali, but their English village eyes them with suspicion. Monday, February 26 through Monday, March 5, FCPL, as part of NC Cardinal libraries, will be migrating to a new support system. This will impact our catalog and library card system and services. NC Historian Fam Brownlee will present "Man to Man: Bighouse Gaines", a talk about the now in production documentary film "Man to Man: Bighouse Gaines". Bighouse is world famous for winning 828 games as a college basketball coach, but it was his role as a maker of men that was really important. Award winning artist Craig Richards will share insights concerning gear, paint, techniques and important concepts essential to successful painting. He will share painting demonstrations and coach students to complete paintings unique to their varied interests and styles. Students are responsible for providing their own supplies.
