On November 7, 2023, at approximately 10:27 AM, Deputy E. Hammonds demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to public safety while on patrol in the 1800 block of Lewisville-Clemmons Road in Forsyth County. Deputy Hammonds noticed a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the roadway, directly endangering other motorists. Without hesitation, Deputy Hammonds executed a swift and decisive U-turn, approaching the wrong-way driver. Activating his emergency equipment, he skillfully blocked the roadway, preventing potential harm to motorists behind him and effectively stopping the dangerous situation. Deputy Hammonds' immediate and courageous actions went above and beyond the call of duty, as he put himself in harm's way to protect the community. His quick thinking and intervention likely averted a catastrophic accident caused by the wrong-way driver. Deputy Hammonds received a commendation on social media from one of the motorists behind him, further validating his exemplary performance and acknowledging his bravery on that date.
