Quilt Trunk Show at Walkertown Saturday, November 23, 10 a.m.
The Forsyth Piecers and Quilters Guild will be holding a quilt trunk show on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. at Walkertown Branch Library. There will be a wide variety of quilts on exhibit including applique and embellished wall hangings, modern quilts, traditional pieced quilts and clothing items. Featured quilters include Gina Kostelecky-Shankle, Linda Whicker and Charlotte Rasmussen.
Kostelecky-Shankle began her quilting journey in 2010 and thoroughly enjoys the challenge of making quilts. Although she learned how to sew as a teenager, life’s demands made it a difficult hobby to keep up with over the years. She tries to learn something new with every quilt she makes and loves the beauty of traditional quilts, but tries to update them with modern and bright fabrics.
Whicker has been quilting for 40 years and enjoys a variety of techniques (piecing, applique, handwork, machine embroidery, etc). In addition to quilts, she has made quilted clothing, such as vests and jackets.
Rasmussen started quilting in early 2000 and her favorite items to create are wall quilts. She utilizes different techniques in making quilts, including beautiful machine appliqué with decorative stitching and embellishments. Workshops taught by the guild have helped her learn even more quilting skills.
