At Walkertown Branch Library, we have a few options available in choosing the books you will take home:

  1. Go Window Shopping

Walkertown Branch Library has the benefit of ledged windows where we have displayed new releases, DVDs, audiobooks, and more for you to check out. Like a pastry shop, you can point through the glass at the item you would like and we can grab it for you, gloved hands and all.
  2. Place Holds via Catalog
If you know exactly which book you would like to check out, you can browse our online catalog and place a hold online. You will need your library card number and pin to place a hold online. You can follow these detailed instructions.
If you receive an error message saying the item cannot be placed on hold, don’t worry! Many libraries in NC Cardinal are no longer sending the copies out to outside counties, these items are unavailable and cannot be placed on hold. Double-check the item you’re trying to place on hold has a copy in Forsyth County and place that version on hold.
  3. Place Holds via Phone
If you know which book you would like to check out, but would rather talk to us over the phone to do so, you may call the front desk at (336) 703-2990 to talk to a librarian. We can look a book up in the catalog and grab it off the shelf for you.

When you’re ready to come window-shop or pick up your holds, you don’t need to call Walkertown Branch Library to schedule a time. Instead, please ensure that you maintain a six-foot distance from anyone else at the library and follow these instructions for a smooth pick-up:

  1. Let Us Know You’re Here
Set your library card or driver’s license on the small table outside the door and ring the doorbell the the left, under the WiFi sign. If you are returning books, please set them on the table as well or place them in the book drop boxes to the right of the door.
  2. We’ll Check You Out
When we open the door, let us know if you would like any of our sweet confections from the windows. Remember, we can only see the back of the books, so you’ll need to point out which ones you want! We will get these and any holds checked out to you inside the lobby. For the safety of your health, we ask that you do not enter the library building.
  3. Your Items Are Ready!
We will set your items, card, and anything else we have for you back on the small table for you to pick up. This small table will help us limit our contact for your safety and ours. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail.
