Sensory-Friendly Programs


Forsyth County Public Library's Sensory-Friendly Newsletter is designed for families with children, teens and adults with sensory issues. The programs, books, craft and community support groups will help families find programs and information geared toward this community.

Thank you for subscribing and viewing the bimonthly Sensory-Friendly Newsletter. Moving forward, the Sensory-Friendly Newsletter will be published on a quarterly basis. The issues will be made available in January, April, July, and October. Check back often on this webpage for any news and upcoming events in between issues.

All in-person programs at all branches are limited until further notice due to COVID-19 concerns. We will reschedule and resume in-person programs when it is prudent to do so and as our schedule allows. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please call your branch if you have any questions.


Fall Crafternoons

  • Tuesday, Oct. 26 and Monday, Nov. 8 for teens, 4 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Nov. 12 for kids, 4 p.m.

Paddison Memorial Branch Library: 248 Harmon Ln., Kernersville, N.C. 27284

Kids and teens can pick up a DIY Crafternoon To-Go kit at the Paddison Memorial Branch Library during select weeks in October (Oct. 25-30) and November (Nov. 8-13) and will also have the option to attend a Crafternoon event outdoors in the library courtyard. The kit for kids is recommended for ages 4 to 11, and the teen kit is designed for ages 12 to 18. The kit themes will be Halloween for October and National Native American Heritage Month for November. Masks will be required for all ages 5 and up at all in-person outdoor events. Space is limited and event may be cancelled due to weather if necessary.

Trick-or-Treat at Your Library

  • Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Lewisville Branch Library: 6490 Shallowford Rd., Lewisville, N.C. 27023

Visit the Lewisville Branch Library and get a treat to take home (while supplies last). Costumes welcomed, but not required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library.

Weekly Craft Kits

  • Mondays, during library hours

Southside Branch Library: 3185 Buchanan St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27127

Numbers-of-the-Week Kits and Letter-of-the-Week Craft Kits will be available for pickup at the Southside Branch Library. There will be a new set of numbers or letters every Monday. Work your way through the numbers 1-100 with your child or through the alphabet. Packets include a simple craft, activity sheets, and cut-out numbers or letters. Free, no registration necessary. Recommended for ages 5 years and younger. Please contact Jamall Grice at 336-703-2982 for more information.

After School Fun at Carver

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Virtual Preschool Crafts

  • Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.

Join us each week on Wednesdays for a virtual preschool craft demonstration. All crafts will require the following: scissors, glue (stick or liquid), tape, pen or marker. A limited amount of pre-assembled supply kits will be available for pickup at the Clemmons Branch Library (6365 James St., Clemmons, N.C. 27012).

Take-and-Make Craft Kits

Looking for a DIY craft kit for kids or teens? Stop by the Reynolda Manor Branch Library during the month of October to pick up a DIY craft kit, while supplies last. We have two kits for kids, recommended for ages 5 to 11. They are a Jellyfish Friendship Bracelet kit, and a Mask Making kit. A Journal Decorating kit is for ages 12 and up. Pick up a kit for either age group at the Reynolda Manor Branch Library. For more information, contact Priscilla Spencer at 336-703-2963.

To-Go Craft Kits

Children's Room at Central Library: 660 West Fifth St., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101

Visit Central Library to pick a craft kit for children and their caregivers to complete at home. To-Go Craft Kits are for preschool children and include supplies for a scissor-free craft (glue may be required). Each week, caregivers can stop by the Children's Room desk at Central Library to pick a Craft Kit. There are a limited number of Craft Kits, so please be sure to call the Children's Room desk at 336-703-3040 to check in advance.


Virtual Chess Club

Chess Club has gone virtual. We will be using Zoom meeting rooms and lichess.org to play chess. Join us once a month for a virtual chess strategy session and tournament play. Open to ages 7 - 18.


Hook-and-Loop Club

Come and join yarn crafters who like to knit, crochet, embroider, and such for our inaugural gathering. Bring your own project to work on or use some simple supplies and patterns we will have on hand. All skill levels are welcome. We share each other’s company and maybe a tip or two about a project. Join us outside at the library or from home for a FREE session of yoga to help uplift your mind and body during this stressful time. All fitness levels and ages welcome. Registration not required.
