Experience the Echoes of 1776 at the Lewisville Branch Library
Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary at the Lewisville Branch Library with a day of history brought to life on Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Starting at 11 a.m., Professor Bill Partin will present Revolutionary Women: Heroines of the American Revolution and discuss the courage, intelligence, and influence of women who helped shape our nation’s fight for independence.
At 1 p.m., step into the past with our live and interactive wax museum, where visitors can “meet” and converse with figures from the Revolutionary era.
Also, at 1 p.m., children can drop in to create patriotic arts and craft at our monthly Mini Masters Art Adventures program located in our Storytime Room.
Concluding at 3 p.m., The Battle of Shallow Ford: An Exhibition of Words and Watercolors. This blends storytelling and watercolor to interpret a pivotal local Revolutionary War event.
Rick Jones’s watercolors and Marilyn Ingram’s researched storyboards tell the story of the Revolutionary skirmish at the Shallow Ford. the work draws on sources including the North Carolina State Archives and features scenes of the ford, nearby Moravian settlements along the Great Wagon Road, and the Huntsville commemoration.
Refreshments will be served during the exhibition.

Presenter Bio:
A native of eastern North Carolina, Professor Bill Partin earned his bachelor's degree in history from Guilford College?and a master's and doctorate from The Ohio State University. His post-graduate study and research include time at the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Chicago. Over a 33-year career, he taught college history in Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, and North Carolina, earning multiple outstanding teacher awards. Now retired, he lives in Winston-Salem?and continues to share his passion for history with community audiences.

The Battle of Shallow Foard: An Exhibit of Words & Watercolors
Presented by the Lewisville Area Arts Council?and the Battle of Shallow Ford NCSDAR, funded in part by the America 250 NC Community Grant.
Painting Details:
“We are Whipped, We are Whipped!” by Rick Jones, which depicts what the Tories were yelling as they tried to escape across the Yadkin at the Ford. Translation is basically “we are beaten” or “We lost!”
