Home & Family
The foundation of our society is the family whether it is an individual or several
people in the home. Families in Forsyth County are exposed to research-based information
that will help them to increase their knowledge and develop skills to solve problems
facing them on a regular basis. Extension provides answers on topics including:
managing a family’s budget, handling credit effectively, parenting and child care
issues, housing & home maintenance issues, controlling household insects, helping
families improve their eating habits, being energy efficient, protecting well water
as well as dealing with issues affecting the aging population. The information is
taught through classes, workshops, demonstrations, consultations and mass media
outlets (television, radio, news articles) in the following areas:
- Financial literacy including consumer education and handling debt management issues
- Housing maintenance, including mold and mildew control, reducing energy costs and
identifying insects/pests in and around the home
- Providing parent education and child care issues to parents and staff at child care
facilities
- Issues affecting the elderly population and their families relating to cognitive,
social, emotional, physical and financial well-being.
Forsyth Extension Sewing & Needle Arts Club
The purpose of the Forsyth Extension Sewing and Needle Arts Club is to increase
the sewing skills of Forsyth County and area residents. The club meets the second
Friday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Forsyth County Agriculture Building on
Fairchild Road.
A variety of projects are covered throughout the year and occasionally there are
field trips. All members receive a monthly newsletter which is produced by fellow
club members. New members are always welcome. Why not join us for a visit? Keep
abreast of new trends in clothing, fabrics, accessories and fashions. Share sewing
skills by teaching others or participate in classes taught by other club members
and share in good fellowship. The sewing club is happy to teach “beginner sewing”
to preschool moms.
To become a member, visit one of the meetings. Annual dues are just $5.00. For more
information call (336) 703-2850.
