The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is able to assist its customers who have employment needs, including but not limited to those who receive Work First benefits, Food and Nutrition Services, Child Support Services, and Family and Children’s Services. Since some public benefits have employment-related requirements, the Social Work staff is available to assist customers as they seek employment and self-sufficiency. The staff can assist customers with accessing a variety of employment-related resources both from referrals to community partners as well as utilizing our in-house Employment Center which includes a computer lab and classroom space. The Social Workers take a holistic approach toward addressing individual and family strengths/barriers and will work closely with customers to make a realistic plan toward gaining and retaining employment. Some specific services individuals can access include:

  • Short term high school equivalency and/or vocational training
  • Job readiness instruction
  • Childcare
  • Transportation assistance
  • Assessment and access to treatment for family issues, domestic violence, substance abuse and mental health issues
  • Budgeting earned income and taking advantage of tax credits
  • Intensive job search and assistance with resume writing and completing job applications
  • Post employment job retention services
