Since July is right in the middle of summer vacation, the challenge this month will be to read a book that has a beach setting. (The whole book doesn’t have to be at the beach, but at least part of it does.) Some authors like Nancy Thayer and Dorothea Benton Frank have quite a few novels with beach settings, but you don’t have to read a romance novel. Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” ends on a beach and Peter Benchley’s “Jaws” is set on a beach as well. Ask a librarian if you need suggestions.
Learn English! Practice conversation, learn new expressions and improve your pronunciation in a relaxed group led by a professional language instructor Nicholas Bradley. Say no to pressure and yes to the result. Every Monday at 6 p.m. and every Tuesday from 9:15 to 11:15 am starting August 6. Call 336-703-2990 to register.
