E. Reid Gilbert in Walkertown: To Tell a Tale or Two

What a great opportunity to meet an author E. Reid Gilbert! Some of you might know him. He grew up on Baux Mountain Rd. between Walkertown and Germanton and attended the Mineral Springs School. "Dr. Fritz of Walkertown was our doctor, and his daughter, Martha, was a good friend of mine. The Bowmans, just north of town were also good friends."

Reid left hills of North Carolina to pursue academic study in fields ranging from sociology and theology to modern dance and Asian Theather. He has two Fulbright Awards (to India and Thailand, respectively), founded the Wisconsin Mime Theater and School (which the New York Times called "the center of Mime Training in the U.S.") and directed over forty productions including Shakespeare, Japanese Noh, Commedia del Arte). Having conducted many workshops on masks, he recently concluded a residency in Sedona, AZ, Masking and Unmasking Your Partner and Your Self.

Mr. Gilbert wrote a collection of tales about the Appalachian trickster, Jack, and Shall We Gather At the River, a Romeo/Juliet novel set in Virginia mountains in 1875. He will share his interest in storytelling at the Walkertown Branch library on Saturday, October 12th at 10:30 am. Free. No reservation required. Reception sponsored by the Friends of the Walkertown Library. Call 336-703-2990 for more info.
