Read to a Dog at Walkertown Branch on Monday, July 11th, 6 - 7 pm

Tail-Waggin' Tutors are trained therapy dogs who volunteer with their human partners because the experience is fun for all and helpful for children. Students improve reading skills when they practice decoding and recognizing sight words. They gain fluency and self-confidence as a quiet, patient dog listens without interruption or correction.

A Tail-Waggin' Tutor lies on a small blanket on the floor of the Children's Area, right in front of the window overlooking our Community Garden. Children sit beside their friendly, furry listener on the floor or, if they prefer, on a small chair. Volunteer Mary Donadio, dog owner and trainer, sits quietly nearby.

Having a dog at Walkertown Library adds warmth and comfort to our newly enhanced Children's Area. Drop by during this monthly program and meet our guest tutor. We appreciate our Tail Waggin' Tutors and Ms. Donadio. Their gift of time and training creates a memorable experience for beginning readers.
