Colorful Art Show "Impressions" on display at Walkertown Branch library

Sharon Schenker is a self-taught artist who discovered her talent for painting when she tried her hand at creating a mural on her son’s nursery wall. She developed her skills over the years by experimenting with different mediums before settling on acrylic because of its fast drying time and rich color.

Schenker’s artistic style is whimsical and while her subject matter varies. She is especially drawn to scenes depicting animals and nature. Her vibrant painting, Jungle Jewels (Parrots), was perhaps her most challenging work. It took three years to complete as she returned to the canvas to add more detail. In addition to her eye for detail, Schenker also enjoys exploring shadows and light within her work. She is especially proud of Spanish Courtyard as she feels that she got the shadows and light “just right” to give the painting a three-dimensional sense of depth.

Ms. Schenker lives in Kernersville with her husband and four children and also enjoys cooking, gardening, and crocheting.

Impressions will be on display October through December 2016 at the Walkertown Branch Library.

The paintings are available for sale.
