Law Enforcement Memorial Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy and Congress proclaimed the calendar week inclusive of May 15th as National Police Week. National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

This year, National Law Enforcement Memorial Week will be observed beginning Sunday, May 14, 2017 through Saturday, May 20, 2017, however several local events will occur prior to the week of memorial.

• The North Carolina Peace Officers Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 beginning at 11:00am at First Assembly of God, located at 777 South Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC. This service is open for law enforcement and community members to attend.
• The Forsyth County Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 beginning at 11:00am at Center Grove Baptist Church, located at 8750 Lasater Road, Clemmons, NC. This service is open for law enforcement and community members to attend.

In observance of Law Enforcement Memorial Week, the Forsyth County Public Safety Center and Law Enforcement Detention Center flags will be lowered to half-staff. Additionally, all uniformed personnel will display mourning bands over their badges to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Deputy Sheriff John Thomas Isenhour, who was killed in the line of duty in September 2016, will be honored at each of the above listed events.
