Walkertown Afterthoughts Book Club Reads "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand"

In March, the Afterthoughts Book Club at Walkertown Branch Library will be discussing Helen Simonson's debut novel, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. Simonson, who was born in England and resides in the United States, has written a novel with sparkling wit and comedy that was beloved by critics when it was released in 2010.

Major Ernest Pettigrew, a staid English widower of 64, has just lost his brother. Mrs. Jasmina Ali, a local Pakistani shopkeeper, just so happens to knock on his door as he is reeling from the news. A comforting cup of tea leads to a blossoming romance that faces suspicion from their respective families and communities. The Major and Mrs. Ali weather the storm with grace and humor.

The Afterthoughts Book Club will meet on Thursday, March 8th at 11 am. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to join us for a friendly and interesting discussion!
