Implicit Bias: It's in all of us

Learn about, explore, and confront unconscious biases and how they impact our lives through activities and discussion at the Paddison Memorial Branch Library.

Implicit bias can be defined as the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner, activated involuntarily, without awareness or intentional control. These biases can be either positive or negative, and everyone is susceptible. It influences how we view and engage with other people and our relationships with other people. It affects our perceptions of ourselves, our own actions and our decisions. By learning about the nature of implicit bias, we can begin to recognize it in ourselves and observe how it makes us think, feel and behave towards others.
