Tomato Plant Care: Free Workshop at Walkertown

It is important to maintain the tomato plants by pruning and supporting them. It might seem counterintuitive, but regular pruning is a great way to give your tomato plants the best start and get the best quality tomatoes this summer. Pruning helps maintain a balance between vegetative (leaves and stems) and reproductive (flowers and fruits) growth.

Pruning also improves airflow to prevent disease and can even help your plants produce larger fruit. Although this maintenance requires some work, the reward of larger tomatoes on healthier vines is well worth the effort. If you don’t prune when needed, your tomato plants will produce excessive vegetative growth (leaves and stems) with reduced fruit size.

Join us at the Walkertown Branch Library garden on August 7th at 9:30 a.m. for a "Tomato Plant Care" workshop. This workshop will be led by Cameron Waters, Community Garden Program Coordinator for N.C. Cooperative Extension Forsyth County Center, and Bob LePere, Extension Master Gardener Volunteer. We will cover tomato support and pruning basics and answer all of your tomato questions.

Register today by calling 336-703-2991.
