Techno-Legends Teen Book Club

Techno-Legends book club is a mash-up of the science-fiction and fantasy genre. Each month we will read chapters from Amy Capetta’s Once & Future Duology and explore the technology and mythology found within the pages.

We'll be meeting virtually using Zoom. You will be emailed a link and password to attend the Zoom meeting after you register. If you do not have a webcam or microphone, you may still attend.

Books we’ll be reading:

Once & Future

Coming to terms with your identity is always difficult. But for Ari, it just got a whole lot more complicated. Gender-bending royalty, caustic wit, and a galaxy-wide fight for peace and equality all collide in this epic adventure.

When Ari crash-lands on Old Earth and pulls a magic sword from its ancient resting place, she is revealed to be the newest reincarnation of King Arthur. Then she meets Merlin, who has aged backward over the centuries into a teenager, and together they must break the curse that keeps Arthur coming back. Their quest? Defeat the cruel, oppressive government and bring peace and equality to all humankind. No pressure.

Sword in the Stars

Ari Helix may have won her battle against the tyrannical Mercer corporation, but the larger war has just begun. Ari and her cursed wizard Merlin must travel back in time to the unenlightened Middle Ages and steal the King Arthur's Grail -- the very definition of impossible.

It's imperative that the time travelers not skew the timeline and alter the course of history. Coming face to face with the original Arthurian legend could produce a ripple effect that changes everything. Somehow Merlin forgot that the past can be even more dangerous than the future . . .

Topics we'll be discussing:

Image September

  • Arthurian Legends
  • Meeting: September. 8 at 4 p.m.
King Arthur has risen again and again in our collective imagination, along with his retinue of knights, Guinevere, the Round Table, Camelot, and of course Excalibur. But where do these stories come from, and is there any truth to them?

Image Febuary

  • Future Technology
  • Meeting: October 13 at 4 p.m.
Technology is incredible advanced, and we're making strides that can push things even farther. In just the field of transportation we are seeing safer cars and fully electric cars. There are even plans for self-driving cars and even self-driving Ubers. What will technology be like in 30 years? 60? What about 100 years from now?

Image November

  • Holy Grail Legends
  • Meeting: November 10 at 4 p.m.
Legends about the Holy Grail are often connected to the British legends of King Arthur, since he never actually found the grail we're going to gibr him pass and talk about other legends surrounding this ultimate treasure. We’re going to explore the stories of Perceval and Galahad, two different versions of the Grail legend this month.

Image December

  • Time Travel
  • Meeting: December 8 at 4 p.m.
Time travel is a staple of science fiction stories, but is it actually possible? It turns out nature does allow a way of bending time, an exciting possibility suggested by Albert Einstein when he discovered special relativity over one hundred years ago.
