4-H Team Places 3rd in the Nation

Congratulations to our 4-H Wildlife Habitat Education Program or WHEP team that placed 3rd in the National 4-H contest the first of August at the J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp near London Kentucky. Participants competed in multiple hands-on events related to wildlife and habitat conservation. Students tested their wildlife identification and general knowledge skills and evaluated and provided management recommendations for an eastern deciduous hardwood forest to improve habitat for various wildlife species. Students also worked as a team to write and orally defend a wildlife habitat management plan.

Colleen (who we share with Alleghany Co) was 5th individual in the nation and Nathan was 9th. Ben and Luke obviously had good scores as well for the team to be 3rd overall. Thank you Mrs. Carla for all your coaching and Mr. Mark for helping to chaperone! We are proud of you!!!

Support for the 2022 National Contest was provided by the Kentucky 4-H Foundation, University of Kentucky Extension, Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shop Outdoor Fund, Whitetails Unlimited, Kentucky Bobwhite License Plate Fund, and the Barnhart Fund for Excellence. The Wildlife Habitat Education Program started in 1977 and is designed to teach youth about wildlife and fisheries science and conservation.Learn more about Wildlife Habitat Evaluation at https://forestry.ces.ncsu.edu/4h/.
