Eastern Woodland Native American Gorgets
Join us at the Lewisville Branch to learn the importance of shell gorgets to the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. A shell gorget is a type of art form of polished carved shell pendants worn around the neck. They are believed to have been insignia of status or rank (either civic, military, or religious) or amulets of protective medicine. Native Americans from the North Carolina area are considered Eastern Woodland. Recommended for grades K-8. Craft included. This program is in honor of Native American Heritage Month. To register, email Raegen Luntz at luntzra@forsyth.cc or contact the Lewisville Branch at 336-703-2940. Recommended for children K-5, but all ages are welcome.
