Harm Reduction Day Event on May 7
In recognition of International Harm Reduction Day, community members are invited to a free drop-in event on Thursday, May 7, from 3-6 p.m. in the Southeast Shopping Center’s parking lot at 3029 Waughtown St. In Winston-Salem.
The event will focus on harm reduction, which is practical, evidence-based strategies that help reduce the health and safety risks associated with substance use and support people where they are. Free harm reduction supplies will be available, including Narcan, the overdose reversal medication, and fentanyl test strips, which can help identify the presence of fentanyl in substances.
The drop-in event will also feature free Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing along with education, peer support and information about treatment, recovery and other community resources.
International Harm Reduction Day raises awareness about how to save lives, prevent overdoses, and connect people to care and support. The event is being held by Forsyth County Health and Human Services, Forsyth Regional Opioid & Substance Use Team (FROST) and Twin City Harm Reduction Collective.
