On the Same Page Concludes With Visit By Isabel Wilkerson

Author Isabel Wilkerson visited Winston-Salem on Sunday and Monday, October 21-22, appearing at both Reynolda House and Central Library. Many book lovers in our community came to hear her speak about the experience of researching and writing The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration.

The Library was honored to host this Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who spent 15 years accumulating the information bound in her "human story." She showed us her copy, and smiled when saying it had travelled 347,000 miles with her since publication, a "journey unto itself." Wilkerson wrote this book to chronicle the huge population shift that began with World War I and continued for decades. She shared, "We all have a migration story in our background."

For more photos of Isabel Wilkerson's Central Library program visit our online photo gallery. We also invite you to visit the Winston-Salem Chronicle's article, "Black Migration Author Draws Large Crowd" to learn more about Ms. Wilkerson's visit to Central Library.

On The Same Page is an annual program sponsored by the Library and several community partners. Every year, a title is selected that will enhance your literary life. It's never too late to go back and read any that you have missed. The list is on our website under Books & More and On The Same Page.

Everyone involved in this community-wide effort wants to THANK YOU for your participation. We know over 1,000 people attended at least one of many events. And, if you haven't had the chance to check out The Warmth of Other Suns, try again. You can download the ebook from the North Carolina Digital Library, and it's also a compelling audiobook (on CDs). Thank you, and we will all look forward to On The Same Page 2013!
