Anniversaries in Music for 2014

2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the classic 1980’s movie Footloose starring Kevin Bacon. Talk show host Jimmy Fallon just celebrated the occasion by banning dancing on his show. The ban ended when Kevin reenacted his famous moves on Fallon’s stage. Download and listen to the song “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins on the library's Freegal Music Site, and celebrate these musical anniversaries with your own fancy footwork.

Other anniversaries this year include:

The California based group The Offspring has been together 30 years as of this year. The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide and are widely considered to be one of the best selling Punk Rock groups of all time.

Also 30 years ago, Bruce Springsteen released his famed LP Born in The U.S.A. to much commercial and critical success. This one album sold over 30 million copies was the highest selling release of 1985. It was also the first compact disc manufactured in the United States for commercial release.

It has been 20 years since Pink Floyd released their last album Division Bell . The main concept of the LP was the use of communication to solve problems in life. The name of the album is after the division bell that is rung in the British Parliament that signals when a vote is to take place. Will they release any new music? There are plenty of rumors on the Internet indicating they will, but we will have to wait and see.
